The Empire Strikes Back turns 30!

Three years ago Dash and Daphne did a series of drawings to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Star Wars. This year, Dash provided two for the 30th anniversary of The Empire Strikes Back. It's amazing what a difference three years makes.

I think Daphne and Dash are to be commended for managing to produce a drawing each day between them for the entire month, only missing one day each. They would also like to thank everyone who stopped by to check out their work, especially those who left comments. It meant a lot to them.

For their final pieces, Daphne produced the collage depicting a jack o'lantern trick or treat bucket laden with candy.

Dash created the detailed drawing of a scarecrow guarding an entire pumpkin patch of jack o'lanterns. It reads "It's a nice sunny day. Oh... Hi there. Looking for a pumpkin? Sorry. All the pumpkins here are alredy jack o'lanterns.

Here's a couple of skeletons with top hats and canes dancing around a grave. The epitaph reads: "Dave walked into a cave. He did not know there was a bear."

I'm sure this is how Dash remembered this grave outside the Haunted Mansion.

After a year absence (admittedly, much the fault of their dad who didn't keep up with posting new works here) Daphne and dash are back with more work including these watercolors. Daphne provided the top two, and Dashiell did the two experimental pieces on the bottom.

Godzilla and more

Between his appearance in G-Fan magazine, and attending G-Fest, the annual Godzilla convention, Dash found the time to create these two drawings. The first one depicts Godzilla battling jets while a maser cannon tank positions itself in the foreground. The second one depicts Gigan as he appeared in "Godzilla: Final Wars" and Rodan.

Star Wars

Dash is a huge "Star Wars" fan. It's one of his favorite subjects to draw. To celebrate the 30th anniversary of "Star Wars" (May 25, 1977) he has taken it upon himself to do some drawings based on scenes and characters from the original movie.

Here are the first two.

Top; An Imperial Sandtrooper rides a dewback lizard in search of the missing droids.

Bottom: Jawas capture a droid and bring it back to their immense sandcrawler in the background.

In a bit of unconventional comics narrative, a mouse runs from a French cat, first going into the incorrect mouse hole, then the correct mouse hole (past the chair) where it slams the door. Note the phonetic "monsieur" in the word balloon which reads "But misure mouse, you are hiding in the hole."

Robot Comic

Here's a short comic strip that Dash created several months ago. In it's brevity an astronaut battles a dalek-like robot, flees for his rocket ship, and blasts off, leaving the hostile planet behind him.

What's remarkable about this strip is how closely it resembles one his father did at a slightly later age, which can be seen here.

Monster Island

Here's a couple pictures from last Spring. this is Dash's model of Monster Island that he (with help from his dad) made for a book report presentation on "Who's Afraid of Godzilla?" For the actual presentation he cut out his own drawings of the key monsters which were then mounted on skewers as simple rod puppets so that he could reenact the story. The rod puppets were sadly the victims of a spilled glass of water, and for these pictures have been replaced by some of Dash's tiny Godzilla toys.

Here's Dash's 2 part illustration for change. In the first image, a scientist drinks a formula created from a recipe in the book with the monster on the cover on the table behind him. Not the bat sleeping calmly on the laboratory ceiling.

Moments later the scientist transforms into this hideous, table smashing, bat scaring , monster!
